Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Top-up) Training (excluding Emergency First Aid at Work - EFAW)
Ensure safe and legal working practices as a security officer!
Security officers often work in challenging or isolated environments. It’s thus important they have the right training to conduct the role effectively while ensuring the safety of themselves and the public. What’s more, they need to meet legal requirements established by bodies such as the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
The Highfield Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Top-up) has been developed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 6 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 1 hour and 50 minutes contact time (0.5-days) if self-study is undertaken. Please refer to Highfield's qualification specification for further details on self-study.
This qualification is designed for anyone who completed their Security Officer Qualification prior to April 2021 in order to renew their licence. If their licence has expired for 3 or more years, the delegate will need to complete the entire Security Officer Qualification again.
Key Topics:
- Principles of terror threat awareness
- Minimising personal risk for security officers

Language prerequisite
Security operatives are likely in the course of their work to be required to make calls to the emergency services, or for example communicate to resolve conflict. They may be involved in report writing following an incident. So it is essential that security operatives can communicate effectively in both reading and writing. Delegates will undergo an initial assessment at the start of the course and must complete this before commencing the rest of the course. It is the centre’s responsibility to ensure that each learner is sufficiently competent in the use of the English language. All initial language assessments must be conducted in the medium of English.
